Springing to life

Crocuses! Alliums! Birdies! And weeds.

The first crocus bloomed on the 15th. A few more have since joined this fellow, by the front steps.

This has not happened in years past, but this particular weed is ALLLL over my garden right now.

I know you hunger for my blurry pictures of birds, so I won't disappoint. Mourning doves.

Live oven-bird, and dead flicker

Today there was an Oven-Bird outside the solarium - a first for me to see one of those. I did not get a decent picture but here's one from the web:

Then later I discovered a dead flicker in the back yard. It wasn't there in the morning, and I have no idea how it died - I didn't turn it over to see whether it had marks on it.

Bird-watching

Lots of slate-colored juncos have been hanging out in the yard these last few days.

Birdwatching

Sitting in the solarium and working offers a prime view of the many birds that pass through our yard. There are countless robins, and grackles and bluejays and cardinals, but I have needed a guide to identify some of the others.

Here and below is a Yellow-Throat, a type of warbler, on a rhododendron - which are now coming into bloom

This and below is an Olive-Backed Thrush, a relative of the robin

I have also seen downy and flicker woodpeckers.
